CHARACTER NAME: Jason Leigh Thomas
AGE: Nineteen
CLASS: Trainer, Breeder
HOMETOWN: Saffron, Kanto
SEXUALITY: Bi-Sexual (Questioning)
TYPE CHOICE: Fighting & Fairy
THEME SONG: In The End -- Black Veil Brides
APPEARANCE:Jason, by all means, seems to be a rather intimidating man at first glance. Standing in at roughly six feet and one inch (just barely), he looms over most people that he meets. His hair is a dark brown and kept mostly short, brown stubble running down from his hairline to his chin; with light brown eyes to match. Most would assume him mean or scary due to his resting annoyed/angry expression. There seems to be very little blemishes on his tanned skin, aside from a few faded scars here and there from his adventurous childhood and younger teenage years. Although his attire might make you believe that he's a punk or biker of the sorts, there are no piercings one can see, though he has a tattoo on his right shoulder of a Gengar with it's tongue stuck out.PERSONALITY:
His clothing might vary from time to time; although his backpack, a medium sized bag with one strap that goes diagonal across his chest, with a pocket on the front of his strap that will also hold his cell phone when needed. His more favored outfit is a pair of blue jeans and hiking shoes, with a white t shirt and loose, black vest over top with. He'll often wear a watch on his left wrist as well as fingerless gloves. With his jeans, he'll often wear a belt where he can keep his Pokeballs on easy access, as well as his NavGear.
Other times, when the weather is hot, you might find him in workout or basketball shorts and a t shirt of varying logos on them, as well as a banana folded up and tied around his forehead. His hiking boots will often be replaced with sandals or running shoes. His Pokeballs will often be found hanging from his backpack strap instead, so he doesn't accidentally loose them or release his Pokemon into his pockets ( which sounded rather frightening, especially with larger Pokemon ). It's rather comical to see him in this, as it almost seems out of character for him. Cold weather gives way to a full body snow suit (minus his head ), an elastic belt around his waist. A thick hat will often be put atop of his head, as well as a scarf to sling around his mouth/nose when needed. At first glance, Jason can be a rather intimidating person to approach. And you're not wrong, in a sense. To new people he might meet, Jason can be rather abrasive and callous on top of being rather disruptive. He doesn't have much regard for people's feelings and will speak his mind, being pushy and assertive in his ways. One might even consider him a bully in some regard ( though he's nice enough to not try and steal your Pokemon or your money ). Being this way means he also always speaks his mind, and it's as if his brain doesn't have a filter for what comes out of his mouth; he can be rather blunt and will speak his mind, even if what he says can be a little insensitive at times. Granted, he will apologize for what he says or does if stood up to if he doesn't happen to get defensive about it, both of which he's slowly working on getting better at.
Being large and buff can at times make him a tad bit careless; accidentally dropping things or knocking them over as he goes along, as if he doesn't realize he's a six foot tall monster with weight to go along with it. His almost brilliant mind -- and by brilliant, well, it's a surprise he passed high school with all C+'s, or that he got those in the first place. While he isn't completely gullible, he isn't smart in most aspects, and tends to outwardly ask a lot questions on things he doesn't know about. He paid attention in school as best he could, of course. But his faltering memory and failure to even pay attention in class for most of his young life held him back slightly in terms of knowledge and remembering things well. He can also be a tad impulsive at times, going into things head first and hard to keep from doing such things he thinks is a good idea due to his thick skull.
There is another portion of him that most don't see unless they're willing to push through his rough exterior. One could say that he is adventurous rather than headstrong, always wanting to learn more about the world around him -- and of the other regions he could potentially explore. Jason can also be rather confident in the abilities he does have, and prides himself in such things. He knows when he should back down from a fight and when not to. His view of women wasn't entirely ruined during his upbringing, and at times can even be a little chivalrous at times when there's obviously a woman or child -- or anyone, really -- who might be in need of help. Growing up in a big city around those people thought to be delinquents also taught him how to be a tad bit clever when it comes to getting out of bad situations or trying to barter with someone (although his plans don't always go as well as he'd hoped). His hard head also makes himstupidlycourageous at times, though again, he might not always think things through when he thinks he's being helpful.
Another odd trait of Jason's is that, while he doesn't ever seem like it, is rather caring and protective of those who eventually grow close to him. Working at a DayCare for two years caring for both older Pokemon in need of training and younger, often baby ones in need of nurturing versus battling taught him to respect life a little bit more than he once had. Adding that to the fact that he grew up around people who had no relation to, yet cared for him as if each and everyone of them were somehow related to him -- or even his own parents -- tends to make him change and become friendly and gentle when it comes to baby Pokemon and people who are obviously smaller and even younger than him or seen as weaker physically and mentally; causing him to take on a caretaker role once he manages to become close to them ( people, at least; Pokemon are more of an instant connection ). If you end up on this side of him, he might even adopt you as a charge and would be willing to do almost anything to help or protect you.
HISTORY:Jason's background is neither sad nor totally life changing -- at least, from his perspective. Having grown up in Saffron City, Jason can't say he really knew his mom much; or at all, really. She had been a traveler of some sorts, trying to work her way up through the white collar industry, a business that at time was mostly male dominated. She was looking forward to a life of luxury and showing that a woman could a man's job just as easily, and were neither weak, nor useless. She was uninterested in many relationships at the time, much less the family life that her family and much of society pushed her towards. She had short flings and one night stands at best, most of which were kept secret from the rest of the world; so her getting together with Jason's father, Lawrence, a biker with no home to call ( at least, so he persisted ) and no care for a woman who might hold him down.REGION: Kanto
But not everyone has an unlimited amount of luck, as much Marie liked to believe. She found out shortly after their little affair that she was with child. While she was against family matters, she was raised with strict beliefs from her family -- one of which when against abortions. Keeping her pregnancy a secret turned out to be tricky, and getting in touch with the rough and tough biker who often seemed to convey being against having a family himself. But she didn't think adoption to be an outright choice if the father wasn't even aware of the fact that she was pregnant. She thought that logically ( albeit, she was more in a panic with the thought of loosing her job already due to various sickness and aliments that came along with pregnancy ), simply handing the babe off to the father would be a better option. At least she didn't have to worry about where he would go, right?
It took most of the pregnancy to figure out where the biker was moving around to, having been high in the ranks of the biker pack he was apart of. Shortly after Jason's birth was when Lawrence had found the babe and mother awaiting him in the lobby of the hotel he was spending a few nights in. Marie approached him with paperwork to sign and some cash on hand, saying that she had no intention of keeping little Jason, and that if Lawrence were to take the money and sign a few papers, he could do as he wished with Jason so long as Lawrence didn't try to contact her again. Albeit a rough and tough man by appearance, Lawrence wasn't heartless; and even if he didn't believe paternity, perhaps having a son to pass on his legacy wouldn't be too bad.
So a few signatures and an exchange later, Lawrence had to roughly explain to the rest of his gang as to why they would be caring for his son for the next few weeks until he could get his life together. Contrary to popular belief -- or because most of the men and few women were a tad bit different than the rest -- the others seemed slightly elated to the idea of caring for a child; most of them childless and planning to keep it that way. But hey, it was always nice being an aunt or an uncle that could spoil a child rotten without much repercussion to their own home life, right?
The group mostly traveled as they could for the next few weeks, using the money given by Marie -- although the other didn't know this; they thought Lawrence had just kept some emergency stash for something similar to this -- while Lawrence did odd jobs and battled to save up money. It took a while, but Lawrence finally managed to save up enough to find a place to rent in Saffron, a better place for a stable job, he assumed. Most of his comrades aided in helping him buy things for his new apartment -- mostly because they planned to make this their 'pad' whenever they swung by for visits, and because Jason only needed the best and finest things money could buy ( in their opinion ) -- to which Lawrence was somewhat dissuaded by. But, he let it slide.
The gang continued their journey only after Lawrence and Jason were settled, and Lawrence was able to find commodities such as a babysitter and a decent paying job that could afford his expenses. They would visit regularly as Jason grew older, and were often the angels to his father, who tended to be somewhat strict and off putting. Jason would later put his behavior on the fact that Lawrence hadn't planned on being a father -- he was told this, though without malice or ill intent -- and that he really didn't understand how to take care of a child. But, he learned to be tough from his little oddball of a family, and was known to be a bit of a bully and outcast growing up due to the fact that he obviously hung around people who were deemed by others to be 'bad' or 'scary'. Thankfully, Lawrence always knew when to put the child in his place, especially when calls came from his teachers that he was misbehaving or bullying a few of the other children.
That didn't stop him from being a nuisance at times, easily melding into the 'rough' crowd that often consisted of delinquents and other outcasts such as himself. This wasn't to say he wasn't 'acting out' entirely; he had only asked of his mother a few times during his childhood, and from what his father told him ( which was more and more as he grew older ), he couldn't seem to care that he actually had a mother. Oftentimes he would admit that he really didn't have a mother, not really. Who would want to claim a parent who didn't want you at all? But there was still some civil disdain for the world as he grew, if only due to hormones and being a child.
His tenth year onward were spent in school. It was obvious he wasn't the brightest crayon in the tool shed, and his father, although having started his own adventuring at age thirteen, wanted his child to surpass him and not live totally on the road with no future as he had once had. So, Lawrence forbade his son to start his journey until he could prove he was knowledgeable in Pokemon and the world in general before he left. Going in head first, especially for a headstrong Jason who often didn't think before doing something, is probably what kept him from getting into trouble too far from home -- or worse. It wasn't like Jason wasn't upset, or thought of going against his father and leaving while the man was working his long blue collar job during the day. It was really only out of respect of the man -- and slight fear that Lawrence could easily track him down wherever he went and give him a good whopping before dragging him home by the ear -- that kept him.
So the boy spent any free time he could exploring the city with his friends, causing havoc where they could without getting into serious trouble and talking about their future dreams and careers. It was only when Jason was sixteen did he learn being a rough and tough guy who thought he could take on the world could actually get him into trouble. His 'friends' thought it a good idea to light off fireworks one evening in city limits, something illegal for good reason, one of which ended up was a rocket that ended up flying off course due to heavy wind and sailing into the open window of an abandon house. No one was harmed and the fire was put out before it was spread -- but by local officials, who ended up arresting Jason and one other boy ( the others having fled, leaving only Jason and the other to stay behind to try and do the right thing and try to put out the fire/get help ).
His father was furious when he was awoke from his much needed sleep to hear that his son was sitting at the police station, and possibly going to be charged with arson. While Lawrence was never violent towards him or abused him in his childhood, Jason was still scared as hell as he nervously waited for his father to arrive at the station. The story of their night were told and retold by both teenagers as soon as their legal guardians arrived, and as the two's stories were the same and were kept straight as well as being obvious from their tales they weren't the ones who were messing around with the worse of the fireworks, they were made a deal -- be given community service or something similar to give away the kids who had started the fire, or they could go to the Juvenal detention for a few months or more and have it on their record. Given that the earlier of the two was a better deal, the two took it. Their friends weren't too happy when they were eventually brought in, but hey, loosing a few idiot friends were better than essentially going to jail, right?
Jason's task was originally, in his opinion, rather embarrassing. The daycare that sat in between Saffron and Cerulean was in need of more workers to help care for the Pokemon, as the owner was getting too old to do it all by himself. Jason didn't decline the job, however, as the only Pokemon he ever got to interact with were his father's, and the few his friends had. Might as well learn about them hands on while he could; it would certainly help on his journey in the future. The odd thing was that, only a few months into his year long sentence, the young man found that he actually enjoyed this job and the Pokemon he got to work with. He even found himself becoming a secret fan of some of the more adorable Pokemon such as Jigglypuff and Clefairy ( though he loathed to admit it ).
So it was a surprise when, after the year came to a close and he no longer had to continue doing his community service, Jason offered the daycare owner to continue working at the daycare free of charge, if it meant it could teach him more about Pokemon and breeding and raising Pokemon. He had secretly become more interested in the nature of such things, though kept it hidden due to thought of ridicule and of his father being upset by him for not choosing a more 'manly' career with Pokemon ( which Lawrence was unlikely to do, but it was often hard to see past his rough exterior more than not ). So Jason carefully balanced his schooling, of which he was becoming more focused on, as well as working at the daycare almost daily in order to get his head straight and ready for graduation so he could begin his journey. Lawrence was rather proud that his son was taking such a turn, and often tried relaying his subtly to his son ( the man had his own reputation to hold, after all ).
Come graduation, Jason was outstanding in his work. Granted, he didn't even come close to becoming Valedictorian of his class, but he managed to keep decent enough grades that weren't close to failing. It was a comedy act as the ceremony went on, seeing well dressed parents and family members engulfing the group of bikers and rough looking men and women that sat clustered in the middle of the mass of people. They weren't hard to find in the crowd, needles to say, yet practically outdid the crowd in terms of hollers and cheering when Jason walked across that stage to receive his diploma. A just as rowdy graduation party soon followed, with good food and a non too quiet apartment that managed to house all of his father's friends as well as his own. Gifts were given, a few tears were shed here and there, and overall Jason was surprised to see himself standing there, having made it this far.
It was ironic that Jason didn't need to work long in order to start his own journey a few months later; many of his 'aunts' and 'uncles' had surprise young Jason with gifts of money and items in order to begin his journey as if this had been their plan all along ( or they just wanted to out do his father in terms of this; this wouldn't have surprised Jason, honestly ), so only minor items were needed when getting his things together. Soon Jason woke one early morning so he could get an early start to Pallet Town where he would begin his very own journey. And, though both loathed to admit it, Jason and Lawrence knew being apart for so long was going to be hard until Jason could make his way back to Saffron, with his own team of Pokemon so he could challenge Sabrina for his sixth Gym Badge.
But it would all be worth it in the end, really.
STARTER: Charmander
GOALS:- To become a well known Pokemon breeder and trainer.
- To possibly meet his mother one day, even if just to get a bit of closure.
OTHER:LAWRENCE EVANS;; Father, 43Lawrence is a gruff man of few words. A previous biker turned construction worker due to fatherhood, one would think Lawrence to be a man who never intended to have a family, much less want to be stuck with a child and raise him all by himself. He is gruff and usually doesn't like to show the kindness he has deep down inside. Perhaps his toughness during Jason's childhood helped him not become a delinquent like his father.MARIE THOMAS;; Mother, 40Marie is a woman who prides herself on her work. Having worked her way from the bottom all by herself, by tooth and nail, she is now a rather wealthy woman who sees having a family as something not totally necessary; granted, she is currently married with a family of her own, only reproducing (again) for the need of a successor. She had been young when she had her first born (Jason), and not wanting to be held back from her dreams of becoming a wealthy, high society life that she wanted, as her childhood consisted of living paycheck to paycheck due to her parents being poor and uneducated.ASHTON THOMAS;; Half-Sister, 10Ashton, being raised by strict parents who expect her to follow her mother in the family business, has an outer personality mostly for show. She tends to have respect for adults, and has little choice but to listen to her parents regarding her future. Having been denied the adventure that is her journey with Pokemon, Ashton currently focuses on her studies in order to take her mother's place when she's old enough (although she inherently doesn't want to). She hopes to start a journey sooner than later, and is hoping for an easy way to do this without much trouble.
