CHARACTER NAME: Arcania Hashine
AGE:
22
CLASS:
Team Rocket - Trainer
HOMETOWN:
Saffron City, Kanto
APPEARANCE:
FC - HARUKI SAGAE, AKUMA NO RIDDLE
She looks far younger than her actual age most of the time, but Arcania doesn’t mind it. All the better to fuel her vanity, and make her seem less of a threat. All the better to fool you with, since her youthful façade makes people far less likely to suspect her for anything that goes wrong. She’s just an innocent young woman working in a flower/apothecary shop, right? Good, you bought it and now you’re dead, just like she planned.
She carries her full 5’9” frame proudly, never slouching or slumping. She would look sloppy and undignified if she did so, and that she cannot allow. Golden eyes are often narrowed in boredom or irritation, and should they ever shine with delight… run if you still can. It’s probably already too late. Her lengthy hair is a pale red, with pins keeping the better part of her bangs from her face. She has to keep it back, either with hair ties or a band, because snagging it on plants is not a pleasant experience. Besides, leaving any at the scene of a crime would be sheer stupidity, and Arcania is far from stupid.
Simplistic and dark is her typical style of dress: black pants and jacket with a grey undershirt usually. Fingerless gloves that reach towards her elbows grace her hands if she feels like it. Her shoes are always practical, unless she decides to switch it up for whatever reason. In those cases, she dons heeled boots or heels with straps going up her legs, just for the fun of it. She likes being tall, towering above others to put fear into them or just to be able to truly look down on them.
When she’s bored (which is quite often) she can often be seen wandering around with something hanging out of her mouth, occasionally a pen but generally some Pocky or other stick-like candy like a lollipop or a candy cane in the winter months. Doesn’t help her look any older, but she loves candy (not that she’ll admit it) and it helps keep her from going insane in her boredom. Besides, she likes how it helps her demean others when she stares off into the distance, chewing on something while they try to talk to her.
PERSONALITY:
People who have good things to say about Arcania usually haven’t seen the real her. Sure, she can be as sweet as a kitten dipped in sugar, but that doesn’t mean that’s what’s real. In fact, you can be certain it’s not, and she’s just playing you to get her way. She’s good at that sort of thing: saying and doing whatever she needs to in order to get what and where she wants. Usually, it works for her since she’s been doing it for so long, but no one is perfect (even if she likes to think she is). Her dishonesty knows no bounds, and she’s entirely unrepentant about it.
In truth, she’s very headstrong and independent, thinking she needs no one other than herself because everyone else is incompetent. Those she allows around her are likely considered nothing other than minions at best, and she doesn’t hesitate to let them know what she thinks of them. It usually isn’t anything good.
It’s possible to be the sort of person that she actually respects, usually by being remarkably similar to her. Power is the only thing she respects, and she has to think that power is deserved or else she’ll either try to take it for her own or she’ll use her scathing tongue to cut the person down. She’ll never be sorry about it, because in her mind she deserves everything she wants on a silver platter and other people are only around to serve her own needs.
She’s the sort of woman who knows what she wants and will do whatever she has to in order to get it, and because of that she has developed quite extensive planning skills. She’s resourceful, using what and who she has around her to the best of her advantage. Anyone she chooses to keep around serves some sort of purpose, even her Pokemon. If they fail to prove useful, she gets rid of them. You don’t want to disappoint her, it won’t be pretty.
HISTORY:
As a young girl, no one could imagine what sort of woman Arcania would turn into. Yes, she was a quiet child, not really speaking unless spoken to and keeping to herself more often than not, but that was within the realm of normalcy. Her parents were young, and this was their first child, so though they worried and fretted like any first-time parents they could find nothing wrong with their dear Arcania.
Of course, being young, it didn’t take them long to have another child, and then another. That was when things started to get a bit… odd. When they were young, Arcania would sneer (actually sneer!) at the idea of watching them. She refused to do so, and would never play with them. The psychologists her parents took her to all said the same thing: it was normal for the oldest to be jealous of her siblings, and she’d warm up to them in time. Yeah, sure, maybe a normal child would.
It didn’t take long for Arcania to get tired of having people poking and prodding in her psyche, and she took the first step on a long road of learning to keep up appearances and make people believe of her what they wanted for her to get her way. She feigned the loving older sister, and her parents finally left her alone, finally quit making her go to all the stupid people who really didn’t understand her and were just wasting her time. Besides, as her younger siblings got older, she discovered the merits of having them around. She was never the one to get in trouble for something after that, mostly because she convinced them to do things while making them think it was their idea all along.
School went much the same way for her. She climbed to the top of the social ladder, not because people really liked her but because her personality was too strong to not allow it. There were those who thought she was the sweetest person ever, of course, namely all the teachers and people in charge. Even those who were suspicious could never prove anything; she made sure of that. People quickly learned not to cross her, when bad things would mysteriously happen to anyone who did. After one poor, unfortunate transfer student thought she could dethrone Arcania as queen of the school, she found herself sent to the hospital with a mysterious sickness after feeling increasingly unwell over a period of several weeks. As soon as she was out of school, she got better, and no one could ever figure out why. But she knew, and she knew to stay in her place and keep her food away from the girl whose mother raised all sorts of plants for a living.
The poor girl didn’t dare raise anyone’s suspicious, for she knew something much worse would happen to her if she did. She had gotten off lucky, because Arcania had chosen to be merciful, or else hadn’t cared enough to do worse, and she knew it. That was the last time anyone tried to do anything other than fawn over Arcania, and for the rest of her school years she reveled in the attention, finding she enjoyed being the one everyone looked up to and admired. She liked the power, and she deserved it. She’d worked hard for it, after all.
Expecting perfection as she did, it was difficult for the girl to get any sort of Pokemon team together. She somewhat found trying to be Champion to be pointless, though she recognized it was the fastest way to any sort of fame and power in the region. At least, it was until a certain group approached her and promised all that and more, if only she would join them.
She took on the moniker of a Team Rocket Grunt, but she didn’t stay there long. The other Grunts were terrified of her, and the Officers could barely keep her occupied. She would refuse to do any jobs she considered beneath her, and after the first couple of attempts to teach her manners and her place, everyone knew to leave her well enough alone. It was flat out dangerous to go against her, as they quickly discovered. Better to send her out on the most dangerous missions they could come up with, because those were the only things she would take on without complaining. She sought them out, in fact.
It didn’t take her long to become a spy, where she worked to infiltrate many important organizations among the regions. She was smart and devious, and it showed in her work. Whatever she needed to be she became, the ultimate pretender.
She wasn’t in the region when Team Rocket was brought to its knees, and anyone you asked after the fact said that was a good thing. Her rage had been legendary when she’d returned to the organization from her mission and heard what had happened. When they set up shop in Jinoa, she took out her anger and frustration on the denizens of the region, and the other members of the team decided it was best not to stop her. She didn’t go for petty theft, oh no. She took people’s most prized possessions and flaunted them in their face, all the while having perfect, airtight backstories for why she had each item. She’d kidnap their Pokemon and make them fight them when she challenged them to a battle months later, playing the long con time and again.
Currently, she's masquerading as the owner of a flower/apothecary shop in Kanto as she finally begins to work her way up the ranks in "legitimate" society. She's grown bored with hiding in the shadows, and now she wants to try her hand at becoming visibly important, and not only in her own region.
