Not that it bothered Alic, of course. It was simply an observation. He had traveled a lot before leaving home, having been to every region several times over. In fact, the man was probably more well traveled than many trainers.
The people here were more relaxed. Less concerned with fashion, less uptight. But that didn't keep him from dressing up the day he was to make his way to the Laboratory. High quality, high dollar black skinny jeans. Leather, black boots that reached to mid-calf. A skin tight, red silk shirt that made his eyes pop, reaching to the middle of his upper-arm. His hair was neatly cleaned into his normal 'just-shagged' look, and what stubble he was capable of growing had been shaved. A gold watch sat on his left-most wrist, elegant and slim.
All in all, he thought he looked good. Even the most fashion-focused Kalosian would find little fault.
And now, all that was to do, was to get his starter. His first ever partner. So he strode into the laboratory - head high, shoulders back, spine ramrod straight. Looking around, he announced his presence, "Pardon me, I was told to come here to choose my starter?"
It was an early morning for the Professor. With the arrival of so many new trainers, it was hard to keep up with all of them. It wasn't like the good Professor didn't enjoy his job, nor did he want to admit that he was getting along in age. He just never expected so many new trainers in this day and age wanting to learn and explore the world! It was thrilling, really. So much to learn about Pokemon, and so much to see!
Oak had just exited the back area of the lab, a cup of coffee in hand as he read over some paperwork, when he heard the voice waif back to him. Oh, another trainer!
"Just a moment!" Oak called, looking for a place to set down his items.
Papers and coffee were quickly exchanged for Pokeballs with emblems on them, before heading back to where he had heard the voice.
"Ah, hello!" he greeted with a smile as he approached the new trainer. "Sorry for keeping you waiting! I was just trying to catch up on paperwork when I heard you come in. My name is Professor Oak -- and you said you were here for a starter, correct?"
Alic stood still as he waited for the Professor, having been acknowledged. His back remained straight, feet flat on the floor, and he didn't fidget at all. Fidgeting was a bad habit - one only for people with poor breeding. Oh, hell, his Mother was still in his head.
To spite her, he reached up and fussed with his hair, running his fingers through it and brushing it back. The woman could get stuffed.
"Hello," he returned the man's greeting politely, inclining his head, "I am. My name is Alic Eron, it's a pleasure to meet you, sir."
"A pleasure to meet you!" Oak responded. "I'm always glad to meet new trainers looking to get a start on the world. Now, your starter -- oh, right!"
The professor turned, remembering something. He trotted back to the lab area of the front room, looking for said something. He seemed to finally find it, and swiveled around before trotting back to the young man. Both hands appeared to hold two Pokeballs, each with an emblem on them representing what was inside.
"A Pokemon is always important when starting a journey," Professor Oak said."Some have Pokemon passed down to them; others, we'll always willing to assist! Your starter Pokemon is what will help you on your journey, what ever if may hold, and you can't switch them out -- so choose carefully!"
With that, four red lights flashed before them, that morphed into four small Pokemon awaiting the new trainer's decision.
The man watched as the elderly Professor walked back into the lab, wondering idly if the fellow was beginning to go senile. Or were all professors like this? From the ones he remembered meeting, being scatter brained seemed a rather common trait.
He couldn't help but to perk up some, however, when he returned with four Pokeballs. One had a sticker with a flame, another with a drop of water, then a leaf, and lastly a lightning bolt. The Pokemon were released, letting out the corresponding Pokemon - a Charmander, a Squirtle, a Bulbasaur, and a Pichu.
Instantly, he looked over the Pichu - they were cute, but until fully evolved they were lacking in battle, and couldn't breed until they evolved at least once. Bulbasaur, too, was looked over - grass types were fairly easy to get ahold of. As were water-types.
So it was the Charmander he turned to, offering it his hand. "Would you like to come with me?" he asked the fire-type.
The Charmander almost seemed surprised that he was chosen out of the three other Pokemon; seeming to consider the man's offer before nodding happily, grabbing at the man's much larger hand with his tiny paws.
"Charmander, a good choice!" Professor Oak complemented with a nod. "They may be a little tough to raise, but are certainly worth it! Just be careful -- their tail's are a sign of their health, and a tail close to going out means a Charmander is growing weak."
Humming, the Professor turned to a nearby table and picked up a few items before turning back. In one hand he held a red object with a few buttons and maybe even a camera on the front.
"I ask this of every new trainer that comes along here," he states, offering the object. "This is what's called a Pokedex -- it helps record information you've learned about each Pokemon you come across, as well as gathers more data about Pokemon we already know about. Now, is there any questions you may have before you begin? I'm more than willing to help you in your journey if you have any questions in the future."
CHARMANDER NICKNAME: your choice! GENDER: your choice! ABILITY: blaze LEVEL: 005 EXP: 00/25 MOVESET: scratch, growl, dragon dance PERSONALITY: your choice!
Alic smiled at the little Charmander's obvious surprise, nodding his head as though to say really. He couldn't help but to grin further as the fire-type grabbed at his hand, enclosing its paw with his fingers and tugging the lizard to his side. It stood close, looking proud, tail swaying happily.
"That's good to know, thank you Professor." he acknowledged the man, inclining his head. And it was, although it was fairly well known - if the fire went out, the Charmander died. Whether the fire was a sign of their life force, or their life force, it wasn't known, but it was a fact.
He accepted the Pokedex, with a "Thank you." When he was asked if he had any questions, he shook his head, "None that I can think of, thank you Monsieur."
The Charmander grumbled, and tugged at his pants. He chuckled, and nodded, turning back to Oak, "It's been a pleasure meeting you, sir." and with that, he and the Charmander were gone.
