She was ready to start her adventure. She had her new starter, a lovely little Pichu she wanted to cuddle all the time. She had the world ahead of her. She had so many ideas already just from the quaint little town of Pallet, and was glad she'd brought a little notepad to jot down ideas as they hit her. Which was what she was doing as she wandered towards Route 1.
Pichu was perched on her shoulder, looking around and curiously learning about the world around her. She didn't mind keeping the pokemon out of her pokeball for awhile. It was her first pokemon, she wanted to make friends with it and have it be her best friend.
Maybe once they got started she'd find someone else to travel with. Someone that might like battling more than she did. She knew she'd have to so that Pichu could level up and get stronger and maybe even evolve someday, but it wasn't her top priority.
Jason hated admitting when he was wrong. It made him feel embarrassed, to say the least. And he especially hated admitting he was wrong when the answer. was right in front of him. In this case, he could have simply looked at the map to see where he was supposed to be going. Instead, he chose to 'rough it'. There might be times where the map won't help, so might as well learn how to navigate without it, right? Nope. Worst decision he ever made, really.
The worst part -- aside from constantly running into ridges he couldn't climb and having to turn around and retrace his steps -- was his new little friend. After he found his way out of Pallet Town, a couple of his dad's old friends had cut him off. They hadn't made it to see him off, so instead met him before he got too far to say their goodbyes -- as well as give him a going away present in the form of a Scraggy. A shiny Scraggy. Jason was elated, to say the least, and thanked them profusely before they took off on their own little journey. He'd see them again soon, no doubt -- and then he could complain about how unruly the little dual type was.
The little Pokemon, whom he for now called Janus, refused to return back to his Pokeball, instead stumbling behind Jason as he attempted to keep his 'pants' pulled up. Such an odd design for a Pokemon, really. And the Pokemon outright refused to be carried, so he was constantly lagging behind. Not to mention he didn't seem to enjoy the pity Jason took upon him via waiting for him to catch up; often complaining in a language Jason obviously didn't understand.
This was how Jason found himself lost on route one, annoyed to the brim by a Pokemon no larger than his forearm as they walked along. He was sure they were turned around now, likely heading back in the direction of Pallet Town. And, surely, the town map wouldn't help him now. Jason was almost hoping for someone to pass by now, with the prospect of asking for a little help finding the next town.. If the Scraggy didn't scare them off beforehand, of course.
( OOC;; Once they meet, I'll go ahead and stir up an encounter for them. )

As she got further down the route she noticed someone else in the distance. She paused a moment as her Pichu sniffed at the air then moved to sit on her head so it could see better. "Shall we go see what's going on?"
"Pika!" She was glad she was already getting along well with her pokemon, even if they'd only first met. It was a good sign for their time together.
Amelia approached the young man with a wave, aiming her pokedex at the pokemon she didn't recognize as she came up. "Hello there! Do you need some help? I've never seen a pokemon like that before, and it shiny! You're so lucky. I'm Amelia by the way, I just started my journey out of Pallet Town. This is my partner Pichu."
The little pokemon went down from her head to her shoulder then straight to the ground to sniff at the Scraggy. "Pika?" It asked curiously, tipping its head side to side as it started a conversation in the language all pokemon seemed to speak. Amelia thought it was adorable.
It wasn't long before their prayers were answered; the Scraggy was well behind him again, going on in Poke' speech about Jason waiting up for him, when a girl was flagging them down with her Pokedex in hand. Scanning Jay, more than likely. She was a slightly faster talker than Jason would have liked, but she seemed friendly enough and willing to help him -- so why not?
"Uh -- yeah," was Jason's slow reply as Janus finally caught up, huffing and puffing as he looked the girl and her Pichu up and down. "I've been kinda lost ever since I made it outta Saffron. I'm suprised I even got here!"
"Scraggy," muttered the small dual type. While Pokemon couldn't speak, Jason was starting to think this little Scraggy didn't like him too well. And that he understood him more than he'd like to.
"I'm Jason, and this guy here's Janus," Jason introducted, the Scraggy turning its head when its name was said. "We're trying to get to get to Viridian so we can get some rest, but it's not really working out that way. Got this guy from a friend, but he's not been the best Pokemon..."
"Scrag Scraggy!" interjected Janus, obviously annoyed as he stomped his feet. Jason glared.
"Well, it's not like you were any help," he huffed, crossing his arms. The Scraggy glared, and turned as if to head back the way they came --
Only to freeze, before promptly jumping to one side. Jason jumped and turned to see what was going on, before barely dodging to one side as a green blur rushing past, screeching in annoyance as three brown blurs followed suit. The cluster only got a few feet further before they slowed, and the two people could tell what was going on.
Three Pidgey were fluttering around what appeared to be a Scyther, pecking and scratching at it. It must have really done something to tick them off. It already seemed badly wounded; had it just been one Pidgey, it might have been able to take them on. But this was not the case.
"Hey, are you okay?" Jason now asked the girl as he trotted back to her, Janus watching from further behind while gripping on his pants. "What'd you think it did to tick them off?" Jason asked.
Post by challengingreality on Dec 4, 2018 1:22:45 GMT -6
She took a deep breath and settled herself. No reason to be overbearing to the guy, after all. She was just excited, still elated over her first pokemon and the knowledge that it was one friend her parents could never take away from her. "Well first, Pallet Town is back the way I came, so you need to turn around if you're heading for Viridian."
Amelia knelt before the Scraggy after it was introduced. "I'm sure you're a fine pokemon Janus. Its a pleasure to meet you." Pichu was hopping up and down in front of the other pokemon, excited and happy for the company. "I came all the way from Celadon City to start my journey, and its really easy to get lost on the way so I can't say I blame you." She stood back up, dusting off her knees of grass.
And then had to dive flat to it as a green blur went past them followed close by three brown blurs. Amelia was back on her feet with Pichu fluffed up in front of her defensively as she did so. "I'm okay, are you?" She aimed her pokedex at the group though she was familiar with most of them. "Scyther is a bug and flying type. I know sometimes bird types will eat but types, but you'd think the Scyther was way too big and strong for them to try it. Must have stumbled into a nest or something."
She felt her eyes burn at the state of the green pokemon. "We have to do something for the poor Scyther before they hurt it even more."
She didn't want to have to fight the bird pokemon even though Pichu was fluffed up and agitated, ready to defend her and itself if necessary. Instead she waved her arms at the attacking birds and tried to scare them off. "Shoo shoo! You leave that poor Scyther alone! Go on now, get out of here!" She didn't know if it would work, but she had to try the non-violent way first. Failing that she would have to ask Pichu to fight and defend them. She couldn't just walk away, it went against her nature. No matter what the Sycther had done, in the grand scheme of things it didn't deserve to be pummeled like this.
RABDOM 386 The moment when 'thundershock' would have been more useful.
This girl sure was brave, Jason couldn't help but wonder. Either that or stupid. She went right into battle herself without even sending her Pokemon in to help her. That wouldn't have been his first choice, really. But hey, whatever floats your boat, right? Jason wasn't usually the one to jump into a battle like that, especially when they were outnumbered and who knew if the Scyther turned on them after they help it, but he figured he might as well help while he could. She was going to help him, after all.
"Alright, Jay, use sand attack!" Jason ordered, pointing at the Pidgey in order to help out the girl.
The Scraggy leered, before turning and, rather than use what Jason had asked, flung himself forward and proceeded to try to headbutt one of the Pidgey.
The girl's attacks weren't really all too fruitful. She didn't seem to harm the Pidgey too much; just annoy them. The largest of the three sent a sand attack at the girl to try and ward her off while the other two continued to strike at the Scyther, who was doing a somewhat better job at fending off it's attackers now that only two were focused on it. Thankfully, just as the Pidgey attacking the girl was about to go in for a tackle, Janus used his move to knock it to the ground and off course with a cry.
"I don't think that's gonna work too well for you," Jason called over to the girl. He didn't want to seem heartless, but he also didn't want to get pecked in his eyes anytime soon.

She hadn't really meant to hurt the Pidgey, just scare them off. Though given that she had to be saved, perhaps her actions hadn't been the wisest of choices. But her grandfather had told her plenty of times that she thought too much with her heart and not enough with her head sometimes. And sometimes that got her into trouble. Like now.
She noticed that the guy with her was trying to help, but that his pokemon was totally not into it. She wondered what the pokemon's problem was, but didn't have time to think too much on it as one of the Pidgey squawked loudly as it was knocked to the side. That brought her back to the matter at hand. She couldn't make them leave the Scyther alone like this. She'd have to fight rather she liked it or not. Sometimes pokemon only listened to brute force. And this seemed to be one of those times.
"I had to try." She called back. She'd still managed to make her way somewhat closer to the green pokemon, but not close enough to protect it herself. She had to make a path.
"Pichu, use thundershock!" She motioned to the biggest of the three Pidgey, figuring it to be the leader of the flock. "Hang in there Scyther!" She also called out to the injured green pokemon. Even though it was a wild pokemon as well, she thought it might help for it to know they were on its side. "Follow it up with a charm so they can't hit as hard!"
With any luck both attacks would land. Well, one attack and something to make them hit a little less roughly. Maybe, if she were really lucky, the Pidgey would be charmed enough to be distracted. This was her first official pokemon battle, and she felt sick to her stomach as her legs shook even as she stood up to the flock of wild pokemon.
Well, she wasn't wrong. Perhaps she was a Pokemon Ranger or something? Only people of those class seemed so die hard about protecting Pokemon. But -- she surely didn't look like one. Or she didn't dress like one, at least. He'd have to remember to ask what her deal was once this was all over. In the meantime, he'd have to figure out a way to make his new little Pokemon to listen to him. There wouldn't be much help from him otherwise, and while Jason didn't like him now, he did look forward to at least evolving him when the time came.
Said little Pokemon was standing up as the Pidgey did so as well, brushing himself off before readying himself for another attack from the Pidgey -- or another attack on the Pidgey, if they were being honest.
"Alright, I'll try and keep this Pidgey occupied while you take care of that Scyther," Jason said to girl -- Amelia. "That Pidgey of yours could take out those Pidgey quickly if it knows any electric type moves, so you'll have no trouble taking care of them!" Looking to Janus, he huffed. "Hey, think we can try a sand attack now? Or are you not ready yet?"
Janus glared at his trainer for the comment, before turning back to the Pidgey. Surprisingly, he did what he was told this time. As the girl had her Pichu attack what they assumed to be the leader of the flock, who was just now getting airborn, Janus turned to the two attacking the Scyther and let out a flurry of sand at them.
The leader of the flock, while very angered at her flock being attacked by these two humans only because they thought it was innocent, it was unprepared for the thundershock thrown at it by the Pichu. The move was a super effective attack, and as it was already weakened, the Pidgey went down quite easily.
The sand attack did its job quite well; throwing both of the Pidgey off while unwittingly throwing some on the Scyther as well. The two underlings, seeing their leader downed and the Scyther now kneeling down and unable to move far, both turned their attention to the trainers and their Pokemon. One dove for the Scraggy, however half blinded, did not seem to notice the Scraggy coming back at him; instead was knocked down along with its opponent. The Pidgey got back up quickly, however, and went for another tackle.
The second went for the Pichu, doing like its counter part and going for a tackle at the opposing Pichu. It seemed a little less than happy at being forcful with its attack. Maybe the charm had worked?

The knot in her stomach was getting worse the longer this battle went on, and Amelia knew she had to finish it now that she'd started it. She had gotten involved in a dispute between wild pokemon. She didn't know what was going on, but now she and another trainer along with their respective teams, were stuck in it. She had to make it right. When the first Pidgey went down she almost burst into tears. She didn't want to hurt them, so she'd have to apologize when this was over.
While she really did want a Pidgey to come with her on her journey, she didn't think taking the leader of the flock would be a good idea. If she could get the one that had been charmed down she'd catch him to bring along with her. For now she had to finish this and take care of the Scyther.
"Kaaaaaaaa....." Her Pichu cried out when it was tackled, though it wasn't nearly as roughly as it could have been it still made the young woman wince in sympathy. "Hang in there Pichu, we're almost done!"
She'd made it to the Scyther. It was so weak now she'd have to do something fast. She had potions and full heals on her but with the Pidgey it may not be safe to use them. "Okay Scyther. Just stay still, we'll have you out of here soon." It seemed to understand her despite how injured it was. Amelia planted her feet, standing her ground.
Her new companion, Jason, had squared off with one of the remaining two Pidgey, and the final one, the one she thought might come with her, was up against her Pichu. "Pichu use thundershock again!"
Pichu was a little battered but its ears perked at hearing the determined order given by her trainer and stood up, planting tiny feet apart and giving it all she had. "CHUUUUUU!"
Amelia hoped this would do it, that both she and Jason could finish this so she could take care of things and apologize to the Pidgey. She felt so bad.
RABDOM 350 Amelia may be sick when this is all over. And she'll grab Scyther when this is all over.
The third Pidgey seemed pretty proud for managing to hit that pesky little mouse, and swung around to dive in for another hit. The Pidgey mistook it's hearty blow for a close to winning one, however. As the Pidgey dove closer, the Pichu proved to be faster; attacking with another electric type move that knocked it out rather quickly, falling down to the ground nearby with a groan.
Jason seemed to be doing somewhat the same (although, he didn't have the same type advantage on him like Amelia did). Janus was able to easily dodge the on coming tackle, the previous sand attack having blinded the Pidgey and causing it to miss. Janus snickered at the Pidgey's misfortune, and before Jason could utter a word in edge wise, the Scraggy lunged forward as the Pidgey stood. It was ready, however, and met the headbutt with's it's own tackle. As Janus was stunned, the Pidgey wearily moved in for another tackle, already weakened but still fighting.
"I think we're fine here," said Jason, albeit sounding annoyed. "I can take care of this Pidgey if you want to look at the, uhm, Pokemon."
The Scyther seemed calm behind Amelia. Granted, that was likely because of the bruises and scratches that it was tattered in, and it seemed to be giving Amelia a somewhat off putting look that would have chased most others off. But it stayed, regardless. It wasn't like it could fight back much, anyhow. These humans could likely do anything they wanted to.

"Way to go Pichu!" She cheered as the little mouse pokemon came to her and plopped on her feet on its belly. It was exhausted after putting out all that electricity, but its part in this was over. "You did great little lady, take a break now." She told it while returning it to its pokeball and stashing the pokeball. At the same time she pulled a potion from her pack and used it on the injured Scyther.
"There you go." She told it. "Just rest awhile okay?" She smiled at the bewildered looking pokemon then plopped onto her knees next to the fainted Pidgey. "I'm very sorry for attacking you and your friends like this, but I couldn't let you gang up on Scyther like that. Its way too big for you to eat, and if it got too close to your eggs then I'm sure it didn't mean to. Its not like it eats eggs or anything. You were just defending something weren't you?" She pet the downed bird pokemon, thinking on her next move. She wanted a bird type to go with her, and this Pidgey had held back a little when attacking her Pichu. Maybe it'd like to come with her?
Amelia grabbed one of her pokeballs and tossed it at the Pidgey she'd been knelt next to. "Come on an adventure with me. I promise you won't regret it." She told it.
She then looked back to check on Jason to realize he was still in a fight with the one remaining Pidgey. "You can do it!" She cheered to him and his pokemon, though not so loud as to distract anyone. That would be bad. Her attention was spread out. And the Scyther still needed better medicine than she could provide. "I'd like to take you to the pokemon center in Viridian City close by. Would you come with me just till then?"
The Scyther seemed generally surprised that this human was treating it with such kindness. Most would be egear to catch such a Pokemon before healing, so this was truly something different. The Pidgey itself was none too happy; still glaring at the girl as she spoke to her and even pulled out the round objects she used to keep her Pichu in. It was too tired and weak, however, to resist much. And so the Pidgey was easily caught after a few shakes of the Pokeball.
The Pidgey Jason was still fighting, had very little fight left in it. Jay was able to easily dodge its on coming tackle and counter with his own headbutt. The Pidgey could not easily dodge as Jay could, and so ended up fainting rather easily. Scraggy seemed to show off his strength at defeating the Pidgey -- even though the girl's Pichu helped with one -- as Jason rolled his eyes and began rummaging through his bag.
"You gonna keep not listening every time we battle," Jason started as he headed to the show off of a Pokemon, pulling a potion out of his bag, "or are you gonna warm up eventually? 'Cause you can't keep doing this, you know?"
"Scragg Scraggy," the Pokemon huffed, crossing his arms and turning his face away from his trainer -- but then startling and crying out as Jason began spraying him down with the potion.
"Just stay calm," Jason huffed in return as the spray to work its magic. Jason turned to Amelia now, going to ask if she needed an extra potion for her Pichu and Pidgey as Scraggy tore himself away from his trainer's grasp -- but then paused. "Uh, I think you have a friend there," Jason droned out, nodding to a spot behind her as Janus, too, peered to something behind the girl.
Sure enough, the Scyther stood behind the girl, looking at her rather expectantly. Did she want something? To say thank you before heading off? Or something else?

She still felt bad she'd had to hurt the Pidgey in the first place, but maybe she'd be able to make up for it in the long run. Once the ball stopped moving she scooped it up and placed it next to the one that held her Pichu. She'd get them both out in a little while and heal them, but for now it would be okay. She wanted to let Pidgey calm down a little first, and after she figured out what the patiently waiting pokemon wanted she'd take care of Pichu too. She'd already used a potion on it, and no realized that it looked different than its brethren. It was a much more vibrant shade of green. A shiny Scyther? She marveled at it now that the last of the Pidgey crew were taken care of.
When Jason mentioned that she may have made a friend she just flashed him a bright smile. "I could only be so lucky as to make a friend out of this whole experience."
The Scyther seemed taken aback by that as well and finally and slowly knelt at her feet. It made a low hissing noise at her and nudged her with the blunt end of one of its blades, staring pointedly at the pokeballs on her waist. At first Amelia didn't know what it wanted, but when it didn't move and wouldn't let her step away from it she figured it out. "You want to come along too?"
"Scyther." It nodded once and poked her again. Of all the things humans had tried to do to it, not one had treated it the way this human had. It had been hunted, battled, and attempted to be caught. All thinking they were strong enough to handle it. They were wrong. This human had only shown him kindness, had protected him and healed his wounds. Maybe she was different than the others.
Wide-eyed Amelia looked at Jason then fished out another pokeball. "Looks like it wants to come along too." She told her companion before tapping the large bug pokemon with the ball. It didn't fight at all, and within a few moments she had her third pokemon securely attached to her waist with the others.
"And if he ever changes his mind I'm sure I can always bring him back here and release him." She trotted over to rejoin Jason. "Are you and your pokemon okay?" She tapped Pidgey's ball. "This one I think will stay in there a little while while she calms down. I don't know about you but I don't wanna be pecked."
She did let Pichu out and sprayed it with the potion, healing its wounds. "Pokeball or shoulder Pichu?"
"Pika!" And she climbed back to her spot on Amelia's shoulder. "Shoulder it is. We have two new friends Pichu, and all on our first day together." She just grinned the entire time. "What about you, did you want one of the other two Pidgey?"
The Scyther seemed quite happy to join along with Amelia. Jason wasn't too sure, but he was certain that that Scyther was an odd color compared to other Scyther he'd seen, much like his Scraggy. But he couldn't be too sure.
"Well, at least you got another good companion," Jason commented as Amelia wandered back up to him, standing as the girl placed the Pichu on her shoulder. "Yeah, I don't feel like getting pecked again, especially from those birds."
Jason took a forlorn glance at the two fainted flying types. He wasn't really a fan of them, to be honest. At least, not Pidgey and it's evolutions. He'd rather wait to stumble across a more hearty Pokemon, if he decided to have another flying type on his team besides Atlas.
"Nah," Jason said finally. "Got enough hassle from them today as is. Let someone else put up with them, eh? I got enough on my hands, anyway."
Jason nudged Janus with his foot at that; the Pokemon preoccupied with trying to figure how exactly that potion worked and causing a delayed reaction of obvious annoyance. This Scraggy was sure going to be a handful as they got further along in their journey. Speaking of which......
"Uh, which way did you say wasn't out, again?" Jason asked, taking a look at his souroungings.
The sun had moved only slightly in the sky, showing that the day had began to pass slowly without them. While Jason didn't mind the thought of spending a night out in the wilderness, he would have really appreciated having an actual bed to sleep in during his first night away from home. Sleeping in a bed sounded much more desirable than sleeping on the ground, anyway.

She grinned at his words, though it wasn't hard to get her to smile. "I think we'll get to be great friends someday, the Scyther and I. I just feel it, as crazy as that sounds." She reached a hand up to pet her Pichu between its little ears, earning a cute little cooing sound from the mouse pokemon.
When he said he didn't want the remaining pair of Pidgey she nodded then carefully scooted the two unconscious pokemon so that they were hidden partially in the tall grass. "There, now I don't feel so bad leaving them out here like this." She had to chuckle at his description of already having enough on his hands. "Your Janus does seem like the stubborn sort, but I bet someday it'll be your strongest ally. Just give it some time." She fished out her map them to make sure she knew where they were, biting her lip as he asked her which way was not out. Seemed this young man was very directionally impaired. That was alright.
"South is Pallet Town, north is Viridian City. So that way." She folded the map and gestured towards the path they'd been disrupted from before by the Pidgey attacking the Scyther. The sun had moved some during this entire ordeal, and she still felt a little sick from having to fight. She supposed she needed to get used to it. As her grandfather warned her; not all pokemon were as well meaning and nice as the ones in Alola.
She started walking, checking her satchel and making certain Pichu was secure on her shoulder before motioning Jason along with her. "This way then. If we keep a good pace we may get there before it gets too late." She paused. "So, what pokemon did you pick for your starter? Was it Janus?"
RABDOM 307 Hope its okay that she moved the Pidgey so that they were slightly hidden.
