Jay was satisfied at least to see that his partner for this 'quest' the Professor was sending them on, this errand to make up for their own lackeys mishaps, was swift and straight to the point in responding. If they stayed on that wavelength at least things might progress swiftly and efficiently, and he gave the boy a second over, willing the benefit of the doubt that they were competent. They seemed about as fresh to training as he judging by a quick look at their pokemon, but they already had three companions, which was a sign either of some skill, or that they were more an ambitious catch-them-all trainer then he was. He hoped it was the latter, but he didn't put much faith in either, especially not in one who looked still to be not quite gone of their teenage gawkiness and with such an air of self-assurance. Optimism and confidence were never bad to have, but they tended to lead to those of a manner who were quicker to jump straight in, and the sort Jay could easily imagine and picture to take to training with a mind only to the catch and conquer. Each to their own though, far be it for him to decide such a course was wrong or lesser, and surely there was no fault in the idea of wanting to be strong enough to conquer all obstacles that might hinder one. Was he not the same in some ways even if his manner of approach was different?

An introduction and a question answered him though at his query, and Jay noted with interest the reactions of the boy's pokemon, Yarrow seemingly puzzled as well, though pleased at the responses that answered his curious sniff, blinking at the odd curtsy from the bird and wagging his tail at the mouses small hop. Odd, perhaps this was not the manner of the boy they were used to, or perhaps they were merely intimidated by Jay's own presence. Or maybe it was the mission ahead they were timid of. Without knowing them more it was impossible for Jay to tell, in his strangers viewpoint, but as long as it didn't prove a problem when it came to the job it didn't matter much. Stiffly Jay returned the response though, his answer curt and short, much as his greeting had been. "Jay" He stored Andy's name away, remembering the close cut white hair and bright colors of clothing, and looked over their pokemon again with a nod as Andy agreed to go. A grass, water, and flying, or at least by appearance he could assume such. It was a well rounded team, mixed with his own, Yarrow balanced it out very well, though Durian and their own grass type might prove not much use against a flock of pidgey. They would have to see.

The two were swiftly greeted by Professor Elm as they entered the lab, the man distressed and pacing, decidedly looking not much more put together at the moment then Jay had seem him only earlier, and if anything seemingly adding stress and agitation to their already windblown and overworked appearance, the man seeming to mutter and talk to themselves as they strode the length and back of the laboratory. He did not pity the almost cowering group of aides who stood nearby looking shamed however, casting an idle cold glance toward them a moment in study and note.

In noticing Jay and Andy, the latter announcing their purpose for them and their presence, Professor Elm seemed to find immediate relief, moving over to them in a flash as he exclaimed his appreciation as he hurried to explain, restating what Andy had said before explaining in slightly more detail the incident he had mentioned in calling them here, a cast glance back sending the group of researchers swiftly scuttling away. Finishing with the situation and why it posed such a problem, he put the issue of the matter before them with his plea and the promise of payment in kind for the job, his words rushed and quick as he nearly stumbled over himself telling them the whole of it. Pausing at last, Jay silently waiting as the man seemed to recover his breath and his place for a moment in concentration and brief pause, the egg clearly distressing him in some manner or other, and working himself up just in giving the mission to them. Finally he left them with another warning, leaving them the option to opt out even while stressing the importance of the egg and the best manner of trying to locate it for retrieval.

Andy answered for the pair, appreciating the warning even while accepting the task. Jay remained silent and still, his stance rocked back on one leg slightly, finding there was no reason to give his own affirmation just for the sake of echoing his 'partner.' Andy gave another statement of assurance as they reasoned aloud what they might like for, leaving the Professor on his note of optimism and acceptance as he turned to leave. Silently, Jay followed, a quiet whistle summoning Durian from a tree just outside back onto his arm. Hm, they were well trained, the rangers had given him a good companion indeed. As the pair stepped onto the official route, Jay paused briefly to give Durian orders, offering only a curt explanation to Andy. "Flying types don't always leave tracks. Durian, look for a flock of birds and return" Lifting his arm in a jerk, the rowlet took to his wing silently, gaining altitude before moving out down the route, eyes blinking as they searched for any large groups of avians.

Jay glanced at Andy, letting the other boy lead for the moment until either his pokemon or they encountered upon a hint, his sharp gaze searching the route around him and watching the tree-line while they walked, Yarrow trotting behind him passively.
