Jason wasn't one of the smartest people around -- even he knew that -- so it wasn't as uncommon as one might think for the nineteen year old to get lost on his way to receiving his starter. He opt to walk most of the way there to save up on money; however disregarded the fact that he didn't know Kanto as much as he hoped. So while Jason still managed to arrive in Pallet Town at all, he managed to arrive over a day late (though thankfully not a dollar short).
He had been greeted by a surprised lab attentant, who was more than help him get his starter while the Professor was out. Which had been, by choice over the other two starters, a Charmander. He preferred the fire lizard over the other two anyway, and he figured finding others wouldn't be too hard to find.
While Jason had all but rushed to get to Pallet Town (surprisingly), he found himself rather intrigued by the small town. Rather than leave quickly, he figured he could drop by the next Pokemon Center to give his old man a call and take in the sites while he was there. Wasn't like he had much else to do, right?
Shortly after calling his father, Jason set out with little Atlas (his newly nicknamed Charmander) in tow to give Pallet one last look before heading off. If he didn't manage to cause too much trouble, of course.
The world of Pokemon was a vast one, but Cora had to start somewhere. As she left the lab, she came to the realization that she was never good with directions. Even with a convenient map provided to her, it would be a difficult trek if she was constantly questioning where she was going. Head was down almost nose touching the paper map in front of her as she walked towards the main, but tiny, parts of Pallet Town. It had been quite empty looking when she first arrived so when her shoulder collided with the side of a tall brown-haired man, she gasped and shrunk into her shoulders as if she was a turtle trying to hide into her shell. "s-sorry..."
Not even realizing, her pokeball containing her Charmander, which she had mentally named Kole, had fallen from her hand to the ground conveniently falling directly onto the button to open the ball. A laser-like red beam shot out from the ball in an ark and began to take the shape of Charmander. Magenta colored eyes couldn't tear themselves away in awe as she watched her very first Pokemon appear in front of her and this stranger. CHAR! The small flame lizard outstretched his tiny t-rex arms as if he had been slumbering in that pokeball for quite some time. Immediately he understood that Cora was his trainer - Professor Oak had prepared the little ones for this day that was destined to come. Waddling over to her, he plopped down and began playing with his tail.
Cora glanced back over to the stranger who had obviously stopped when they collided. She was unsure what to do in this very moment. Everything seemed to stand still. Some people were not fond of Pokemon but he was wearing a belt very similar, quite possibly the same style as the one she just received from the Professor. "I, um, am a bit lost. Do you happen to know the way to Route One?" It was a good thing she was able to slightly warm up her voice back at the lab as she was still quite mute in her volume when she spoke. Rose colored lip bit down on her bottom lip as she fidgeted her hands a bit. Already she had made her way into conversation with a person instead of getting to talk to a Pokemon that couldn't talk back.
The young breeder was beginning to see why there weren't many people living in Pallet Town to begin with -- while there was the Pokemon Lab and a few minor places to visit in the town, there really wasn't much to do here overall. Jason found himself staring at the few houses in the area, lips pressed together tightly in annoyance with Atlas looking up at him rather curiously. All this time, wasted looking at nothing! And here he could have already been on his way to the next town. He sighed, turning on his heel to take a look around and see if he couldn't get his bearings right. He was never good with directions, and the map at this point seemed pointless. Well, to him.
"Char!"
Jason looked down at Atlas curiously, wondering why he was pointing behind him -- before he felt something bump into his shoulder from behind him. It wasn't strong enough to even faze him, yet just enough to notice. Brow furrowed, thinking some other new trainer was trying to pick a fight with him, the young man spun on his heel to give them a piece of his mind -- when he realized it was a girl shorter than he, who gave him a barely audible apology as he turned. Her bumping into him caused the Pokeball on her belt to pop off, and suddenly her Pokemon -- a little Charmander -- was released.
"Hey!" Jason perked up, forgetting his momentary anger to focus on the duplicate of his little starter. "You got a Charmander too, huh? I can't wait to mine to a Charizard -- that' gonna be so freaking cool, flying around and setting things on fire!"
"Char!" Atlas added; however it was more to the other Charmander that he was now very curious in rather than the conversation.
"Well, not everything," Jason went on. "Maybe just a few rocks and stuff. Hm? Route One?"
His brow furrowed again as he realized his original delima. The brunette peered around again, turning once, twice, three times before he turned all the way around to face the girl again.
"I can't say I do!" I chirped. "I thought it was east, but I can't remember which way east is." Jason rubbed the back of his head at that. "My old man always said I was bad a directions. But --" he seemed to realize now that the girl was holding a town map, something he knew he had but previously refused to use, "-- what, you can't read a map, either?"
Jason huffed. There went the thought of trying to mooch off someone else in order to actually start his journey. But he couldn't be too upset, he guessed. Most people coming from here were usually new trainers like himself and this girl, right? (Even though most people, himself included, probably should have checked sooner than, well, now.)
"...... I mean, I guess if you want," Jason started after a moment, "we could just find it together? Two eyes are better than one, right? Wait, no, it's four eyes. Right?"
"Char? Charmander!" Atlas seemed to perk up at this, nodding with his trainer in agreement.
One could tell Jason wasn't the smartest one in the bunch, nor did he know when to simply stop. Maybe thiis journey of his would actually be a little better for him. Sure, he was getting out of Saffron and some unsavory friends. But he was always a little stubborn and not -- well, not too bright. It was a surprise he made it this far, really. Just so long as he didn't accidently get the two even more lost. Or, you know, offend her while trying to get there. If she didn't already dislike him, that is.
So lost in her own thoughts, Cora didn't even realize that the man had his own Charmander following him around already. It seemed that Kole hadn't a care about the other fire lizard or maybe hadn't recognized it until it spoke. Flame tail spun around as he twirled on his rump to face the other trainer's Charmander. Chaaar. Charmander! As if he was a person, he waved at the other Charmander, content with sitting at his trainer's feet.
A few stray strands of dark maroon hair fell in front of her eye, reaching up to tuck it behind her ear. This man had said more words to her in their short interaction than she likely has in the last month. It was rather difficult to keep up with the conversation. A simple nod sufficed in a few spots where he inquired about her also getting the same starter Pokemon as him, as well as being lost and terrible at reading a map. "I...don't travel too often." As he continued to talk, her eyes were still yet to directly latch onto his gaze, but at the mention of their travels together, her orbs shifted from the ground to meet with his honey colored ones. "Oh well I -" The thought of two strangers venturing together that both were directionally challenged sounded like a terrible idea, but Cora looked back down at her Charmander that had now picked his body up from the floor and was examining this man's Charmander. It sure would be nice to not be alone at least... "Yea, we could do that, right Kole?" The blazing reptilian had no idea that she was speaking to him yet, not having been told his name and quite obviously more interested in his "family" member.
Just before they were about to try and head in the correct direction towards Route One, one of Professor Oak's aids was sprinting right at them waving his hands in the air frantically. "Oh miss! Miss! Thank goodness I caught you. This egg just arrived at the lab from your parent's house right before the sale. It was found hidden in some bedding in the barn. The real estate agent figured you would want it." Eyes widened in amazement. All of the herd of Ponyta, Rapidash and Miltank had been sold even if it was difficult to swallow at the time. But now there was a chance to keep a piece of her parents. The only two Rapidashes that were left in the barn overnight together were her parents' prized racers. It was the breeding pair they had longed to see a baby come from. Cora was handed the green spotted cream colored egg in both of her hands, dropping the town map in exchange. She was so in shock of all of the happenings she just stood there for a minute, which felt like an hour, before placing it into her bag wrapped with one of her hoodies. Glancing back up at the stranger, she wasn't sure what he'd say but realized they were still strangers, not acquaintances. "My manners... I am Cora. Cora Meadows." She extended her pale skinned arm straight out in front of her, still a few feet away from him. If they were going to travel together, even if for a short time, they should probably be able to call each other by their names.
"Neither do I! Well, out of Saffron, at least," replied Jason. "I'm starting out a little late. Ol' man didn't think I was ready. Parents, huh?"
Atlas seemed, at the very least, upset he merely go a wave. The little Charmander tried to approach the other, before scuttling back to his trainer.
Anything else might have said was cut off by one of the aid's calling after them -- or rather, the girl in front of him. They said something about the sale. What, she had a house? Must have come from a rich family. But a lot of those kids started their journey at age ten, and usually had their own Pokemon to start their journey with. Maybe she wanted to start differently? How odd. Jason knew if he had money, he'd use it to his advantage. Maybe that's why his dad never let him control the finances...
"Well that was nice of them," Jason spoke, finally finding his voice as the girl put the egg in her bag; Jason reaching down to pick up the discarded town map she had dropped. "Jason Evans," was his reply as he stepped forward to shake her hand, before offering the somewhat disheveled town map. "And that little guy's Atlas."
"Char Char!" the little Charmander spoke again; though by far more curious about the egg the girl now had rather than her and her Charmander.
