CORA MEADOWS
It had been only a few weeks since the passing of her parents in a freak accident - only a few weeks since her dreadful eighteenth birthday which would preserve that horrible memory. It took every ounce of hidden energy she could muster to pull herself from under the sheets and get dressed for the day. Prior to the accident, Cora would be up at the crack of dawn just as the dew drops began falling from the leaves and the tiniest bit of sunshine peered through the mountain side. Now she had no Pokemon to take care of and not much of anything in the world really to push her forward. The one thing she had to try her damnedest to hold onto was hope. Those dreams she found herself lost in while doing her chores and the countless books she studied to prepare herself for this day. She just had to hold on.
As she pulled the covers from her pale face, her eyes blinked frantically to prepare for the eminent light that would be flipped on and blind her momentarily. A small yawn escaped her mouth as she outstretched her arms above her head, hitting her slanted ceiling in the process. Cora winced slightly, forgetting that every day of her life she had woken up in the attic bedroom. She couldn't tear herself from the room and sleep anywhere else. It reminded her too much of her parents. The small room she was given was just large enough to fit her twin sized bed, a two drawer dresser and an end table.
Swiveling her legs over the side of the bed, Cora slipped her feet into the slippers under her bedside and stood up. She had to get herself ready - it was finally the day she would leave the house and make her own memories and make friends, even if they were just Pokemon friends. Shuffling her feet over to her dresser, she pulled out a grey turtle neck, a pair of light denim jeans, socks and undergarments and slowly but surely dressed herself. The clock read eight fourty-five at this point and she knew it was going to be a long bus ride but needed to make it to Pallet Town before ten. Rushing out the door, she grabbed a sweet bread roll and stuffed in in her mouth slamming the door shut behind her.
The bus ride seemed longer than the hour it was intended to be. The trees whirling by as she watched through the window seemed endless but just as she began to dose off slightly, the bus creaked to a slow halt and called out that it was the final stop. "I've made it. This is it." She thought as she descended from the stairs off the bus and onto the soft soil of Pallet Town. The bus placed her right at the bottom of the driveway to Professor Oak's lab - convenient. The rather steep incline to the front door caused her out of shape lungs to heave, slightly out of breath by the time she was able to knock on the door. What was she going to say? Did she have to say much of anything? The nerves finally struck into her chest as she sunk her posture awaiting the famous Professor Oak to open the door and hopefully welcome her inside.
